Miss Saigon

Miss Saigon at New Theatre Oxford

Why see Miss Saigon?

THE UK'S HOTTEST NEW REVIVAL

Impeccable singing and set design work hand-in-hand to bring the hardship and passion of Boublil and Schonberg's legendary musical to life in a new revival by Cameron Mackintosh. Miss Saigon was created by the team behind the international hit, Les Miserables, and debuted in London over two decades years ago. Now the iconic tragedy is reinvented for a modern audience, and returns to the UK for the first time since 2016, where it played on the West End for 760 performances and broke box office records when tickets went on sale in 2013, selling over 4 million in one day!

Adapted from Puccini's Madame Butterfly, the Vietnam War provides a heady backdrop to the story of the doomed romance between an American soldier and a young Vietnamese prostitute.

WHAT IS MISS SAIGON ABOUT?

Set in the final days of the Vietnam War, Miss Saigon and charts the burgeoning romance of an American GI, Chris (Chris Peluso), and a vulnerable local girl, Kim (Noblezada), who works in a steamy Saigon go-go bar. From the moment he meets her, Chris is immediately drawn to her, longing to love her as well as protect her from the horror surrounding them. After spending the night together, Chris and Kim realise they cannot ignore how strongly they both feel about each other and pledge their love.

However, not even their love is enough to keep the Vietnam war at bay forever, and when Saigon falls, Chris is forced to flee the country. Kim awaits Chris' return for years - but he has since found a new wife back in America. Will Chris return to Kim, or abandon the life they created to the mercy of the Vietcong?.

Miss Saigon ... 25 years on... you just cannot go wrong

There was an amazing buzz of anticipation as people took their seats for the performance of this amazing story. I sat and watched the original 25 years ago and was so struck by the performance of Johnathan Price playing the engineer and to me, there could be no better. I waited with great excitement. My wait was shortened by someone that I did not expect and that was Rachelle Ann Go who played GiGi....... what a waste of a truly exceptional talent, I could have listened to her all night and wished she had played Kim. However, when Jon Jon Briones took to the stage , I wanted to dislike him because of my love for Mr Price, but I just couldn't... he was spectacular and the real star of the show. A finer and more accomplished actor you would be pushed to find. The standing ovation was much deserved and as the evening came to an end, there was not a dry eye in the house. ... Read more

Wow! A fantastic production

I've not seen Miss Saigon before, all I knew was it was loosely related to Madame Butterfly - but I must say, I was blown away (almost literally at one point) by this production! The set design is something else, as is the performance by Eva Noblezada, who plays Kim. Highly recommended for those who love epic musicals like Les Mis and Phantom! ... Read more
